Choosing the Right Protein Powder: Expert Guidance from Dietician Priyanka | Bite And Diet

To fulfil the requirement of protein, experts recommend incorporating protein powder. At present, the market offers numerous types of protein powders, leading to confusion about the most suitable option. In this case, you can use these 5 criteria to determine which protein powder is suitable for you.

1.    Food sensitivity or food allergy

First or all, it's important to note that the protein powder should not have any allergic or sensitive ingredient. If you have a milk allergy (also known as lactose intolerance) , you can opt for plant-based proteins such as soya, pea, or rice protein.

In case of soy allergy, you can consider using whey protein. Likewise, if you are allergic to peanuts, refrain from consuming peanut protein.

When dealing with a wheat allergy, it's important to check the ingredient list of protein powders to ensure they do not contain wheat.

2.    Digestibility

When recovering from prolonged illness or fever, it is advisable to opt for very light and easily digestible protein powder. Consider choosing rice protein or pea protein for better suitability. Certain protein powders also include probiotics and digestive enzymes, which could also work for you.

3.    Sugar content

If you are diabetic, check for sugar in the ingredient list. Furthermore, it's recommended to steer clear of artificial sweeteners for your overall health. Opt for products with more natural ingredients for better health.

4.    Protein content

You can choose the protein powder according to your goal. When engaging in intense physical activity, it's important to consume a protein powder that provides a minimum of 25g of protein. If you usually take it to supplement your daily protein intake, then 5-8g of protein will be sufficient.

5.    Brand selection

Make sure to choose a protein from a well-known brand. If needed, consider consulting with a dietician for guidance.
