5 Surprising Reasons You're Struggling to Lose Weight: Insights from Dietician Priyanka | Bite And Diet

If you are following a healthy diet and still not able to lose weight, there may be some reason. So, instead of following a fad diet or extremely low calorie diet, check these five points first to find out the exact reason for not losing weight.

1.   Excessive exercise – If you are doing exercise or heavy workout for more than 45 minutes, your body starts losing muscles. So, as soon as you start following a healthy diet or high protein diet, your body starts regaining the lost muscles. In this case, even if you lose 1kg, you may gain 1 kg of muscle mass. So, the total weight loss will be “0”. So, instead of relying solely on a weighing scale, it’s better to check your body measurements at least once a month.

2.   Not maintaining a diet diary – Research has found  people who maintain their diet diaries or share photographs of their meals with their dietician lose more weight than people who don’t. So, it is important to keep track of your meals even if you think you are eating less.

3.   You have not stopped taking sugar -  The only thing I ask my clients to avoid during your weight-loss journey is sugar or sugar containing beverages. It is not about the number of calories it contributes, sugar can cause inflammation. Inflammation, which is the leading cause of most of the lifestyle diseases like obesity, diabetes, PCOS and heart disease.

4.   Sedentary lifestyle – The two most important cause of lifestyle disease is unhealthy diet and a sedentary lifestyle. A sedentary lifestyle lowers your metabolism and leads to weight gain. So, it is very essential to engage yourself in some types of physical activity, like sports, dancing, gardening, swimming, brisk walking etc..

5.   Your thyroid is not under control – Even if your thyroid is under range, you may find it difficult to lose weight if your TSH is greater than 2.5 mIU/L. You can lower your TSH by following an active lifestyle and a healthy diet.
